The NPS will host a free screening of the W.C. Fields classic “It’s a Gift” Saturday, June 8 at Paramount Ranch. The 1934 movie was filmed at Paramount Ranch.
A quick search turned up this helpful Web site, which provides the film’s plot. W.C. Fields’ “hen-pecked” character, always hoping for something better to come along, inherits some money. He decides to buy an orange grove in California (sight unseen). When he arrives, he finds a barren plot of land with only a rundown shack. What will he make of it? According to Wikipedia, “It’s a Gift” is considered one of Fields’ funniest films.
Start the evening off with an easy movie history walk led by film historian Marc Wannamaker.
Admission and parking are free. There are plenty of tables for you to bring a picnic dinner before the walk at 6:30 p.m. The movie starts at 8 p.m.
