National Trails Day & Snakes

I really would love to do be part of National Trails Day… but
I have a paralyzing fear of these guys:

Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

I enjoy hiking with my family, but when I do I can’t help imagining that these guys — who can live for 2 years without food! — are just lurking off the side of the trail waiting for my nice, juicy calf to pass them by.

I am crazy, but if you are not crazy like me, then you can participate in National Trails Day on Saturday, June 1, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Volunteers will be repairing part of the Backbone Trail east of Encinal Canyon Road.

You can help clear brush and improve the tread. Make sure to bring work gloves, protective footwear, long sleeves and pants, sunscreen and a hat. Tools and refreshments will be provided.

Your kids as young as 8 can help out, too, but they must be accompanied by an adult.

RSVP by calling 805-370-2383.
